- As stated by the WHO, information and communication technologies (ICTs) have great potential to address some of the challenges faced by both developed and developing countries in providing accessible, cost- effective, high-quality health care services. ICTs help overcome geographical barriers, and increase access to health care services. Nonetheless, developing and implementing a successful quality telehealth program is no easy endeavor. Proper introduction and management of change is essential, if one has decided to succeed. This symposium focuses on the guiding principles and lessons learned when establishing new telehealth programs. Key topics for discussion include organizational change management, capacity building, strategies, business models, existing and new technology and its integration into the different models of eye care. Lessons learned from successful programs will be showcased for stimulating discussion among the participants. An abbreviated introduction to entry-level concepts will be included to ensure suitability for a broad audience. This course is suitable for ophthalmologists, IT personnel, clinical managers, coordinators and support staff involved in the field of ocular telehealth.
