- This is a basic course for orthoptists and comprehensive ophthalmologists, especially who do not operate strabismus. There are several types of strabismus which require non-surgical treatments. Esotropia with hyperopia should be treated with optical correction. How to decide the power of optical correction and when do we need to recommend surgery? Patients with diplopia from small angle strabismus can be managed by prisms alone or in combination with surgery. Orthoptic training may be helpful before and after strabismus surgery. In selected cases, surgery can be avoided after Orthoptic training. Psychological problems may cause severe esotropia, and it can't be treated with strabismus surgery. Therefore, recognizing this situation is important, and surgery should be scheduled very carefully. As there are many things to do for strabismus patients, recognizing non-surgical treatment is important. After this session, audience may learn essential of strabismus management.
