≪Organizer Abstract≫
In a monumental paradigm shift at the United Nations, mental health and wellbeing, drug treatment and prevention, resilience, decent work, and measures of progress beyond GDP, are included in the global agenda, called the Sustainable Development Goals that governments pledge to achieve by 2030 in partnership with civil society and NGOs. Panelists will describe the transformative advocacy of psychologists in this process, the major impact on the practice and science of psychologists worldwide, and new opportunities for psychologists to further their work and have a positive impact on people and the planet. Since this advocacy has also impacted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction recently determined in Japan, and given that there so many disasters worldwide, the implications for psychologists of the inclusion of psychosocial support in the framework will also be discussed.
