The ongoing demographic change in many countries increases the proportion of older employees and age diversity at work. Human resource management is therefore called upon to find strategies for the successful integration of older employees. Age diverse teams are often discussed as one strategy to overcome problems of demographic change. However, age diversity has both advantages (e.g., utilization of differences in experience) and disadvantages (e.g., intensification of conflicts in groups). Thus, interest is growing how to influence these groups to perform at their best. This invited symposium will summarize the state of the art. Wegge presents an overview about theoretical insights and trainings, Truxillo et al. focus on the impact of job design, Veth et al. analyze the role of leadership, Fritzsche discusses ergonomic solutions in production and van Dick summarizes work on pro-diversity beliefs. Taken together, we show how to manage challenges of age diversity successfully.
