Bayesian perceptual model of auditory Kappa effect

In the auditory Kappa effect, two tones are given, and their pitch difference affects their perceived temporal interval. The classical model assumes a linear combination of actual time and an expected time, and it can be written as a Bayesian model with an appropriate assumption. Recent studies suggest that magnitude information is transformed into logarithmic space and combined with Bayes rule. Here we introduce a new auditory experiment to distinguish between these hypotheses. When fit to the data, logarithmic model makes better behavioral predictions than the linear model. Our findings suggest that the auditory Kappa effect appears to occur in logarithmic space.
