Grit is indicated as individual characteristics for being perseverant and maintaining focus on the interests or projects. The purpose of the present study is to compare the different Grit trait between high school students and ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) participants.
The participants of this study were 229 high school 10th graders from one comprehensive high school in Taiwan as well as 97 Taiwanese ISEF participants over the past thirty years (1982 to 2014).
The participants filled out the "Grit-S scale". Independent T- test was used to compare the mean difference of Grit between two groups of participants. The results indicated that ISEF participants showed significant higher score on the two subscales of Grit: "Consistency of interests" and "Perseverance of effort". Future studies should further conduct in-depth interview to understand the individual's perception and the experience to these Grit items.
