The effect of Craving-based Intervention on reducing internet addiction of college students in China

Internet addiction is a big problem of Chinese college students.Craving, which was proven to be the key factor of addiction in the field of substanse addiction,however,was not emphasized in previous studies for internet addiction.In this study,based on the hypothesis that craving was a critical component of addiction,we designed a group intervention program for reducing internet addiction.63 internet addicted college students participated in our study, while 44 of them were assigned to intervention group receiving 6 sessions of intervention focusing on reducing internet use craving for 6 weeks and 22 of them were assigned to control group receiving no intervention.The results show that:First,the intervention group had significantly more deline in internet use craving and internet addiction than control group both immediatelly and 3 months after intervention;Second,the deline of internet addiction was partially mediated by the decrease of internet use craving.Therefore,our research confirmed the important role of craving on internet addiction.
