The purpose of this study was to examine causal relationships between positive class participation and learning motivation by using a cross-lagged effect model. Children in third- to sixth-grade classrooms (N=411) were asked to complete questionnaires twice (in 2013 and 2014) on positive participation and learning motivation in class. The results showed that the positive class participations at Time 2 were influenced not only by the positive class participation but also by the learning motivation at Time 1. Similarly, the motivation at Time 2 was affected both the positive class participation and learning motivation.
