Attentional avoidance from positive information has been observed in individuals with depression, and this avoidance possibly makes depressive individuals to recover from depressed mood. However, most of previous studies failed to increase attention to positive stimuli with attentional bias modification (ABM), and now it is required to develop more effective method to increase attention to positive information. In the previous study, it is reported that explicit instruction on the cue target congruency in attentional training facilitates attentional modification. Thus, we tried to increase attention to positive stimuli using ABM with explicit instruction. However, the results did not show significant effect of attentional modification caused by ABM. Together with previous results, we discussed the difficulty of ABM on positive stimuli in the current method.
