Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) has been widely used in personality psychology. In particular, personality psychologists use SEM to construct many personality traits models by confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis. As a result, many personality traits models have been proposed in the psychology area. I present a review of some personality models and applications of SEM in personality psychology. Furthermore, I compare multiple personality factor models among Japanese large sample, and describe the possibilities and problems for the study of personality factor structure by SEM. I try to suggest an potential advantage and disadvantage to use SEM in personality psychology, by providing actual examples of SEM analyses.
