The effects of difficulty of context understanding and empathy on acquirement of social skills

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of context understanding and empathy on social skills. The data of 58 college students and undergraduate students were analyzed (mean age = 21.63 years). For the purpose of examining the influence on social skills, a two way factorial analysis of variance with context understanding and empathy in the present study. As a result, at the skills about assertiveness and encode, the interaction of context understanding and perspective taking , a sub factor of empathy were marginally significant. In addition, at the skill about relation maintenance, the main effect of context understanding was significant. From these results, the intervention pointing focus on sensing the atmosphere besides placing oneself in the other person's position may be more useful for the purpose of acquirement of social skills.
