- Corneal diseases are one of the leading causes of blindness in the Asia pacific region. The disease pattern of the corneal pathologies is similar in these countries. Corneal transplantation is required for most of the blinding disorders. In this symposium, the current status of eye banking in the countries in the Asia pacific region such as Japan, Singapore, Phillipines, New Zealand, Australia, China, Thailand, Korea, Phillipines, Taiwan, Korea and Australia will be discussed. The experiences of the eye bank models in the various countries will be discussed, so that a consensus is reached regarding the formulation of policies and steps which can be undertaken in future to enhance eye banking facilities in this region.
