- A number of inherited eye diseases can cause irreversible loss of vision, which has significantly challenged the quality of human lives. Thus, the ophthalmic geneticists in China have been working on identifying disease- causing genes or risk alleles for those diseases, as well as discovering the pathogenic mechanism underlining with seeking suitable treatments in the clinic. In this session, the China Ophthalmology Society would share with all delegates the new findings and insights in the area of ophthalmic genetic research. The contents of this session will include the newly developed genetic approaches for the studies on retinal diseases, the recently identified genetic components for open angle glaucoma, the advances of gene therapy for inherited retinal diseases and overviews of ongoing research in the field in China. We expect this session to serve as a platform for ophthalmologists and scientists all around the world to exchange their ideas and to find opportunities for future collaborations.
