- Modern day cataract surgery is changing. The standard procedure that focuses on the removal of a cloudy lens for replacement with a synthetic lens implant is now moving beyond the best IOL calculation and aspheric, toric or multifocal shape to refractive laser precision. Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (ReLACS) is changing modern day cataract surgery into a refractive procedure, striving to achieve the same kind of refractive precision with cataract surgery as is experienced with LASIK. With the growing number of baby boomers who are reaching the age for cataract development and surgery, and with their expectation for vision correction coming from a generation desiring LASIK, ReLACS represents the next, big wave of refractive surgery within a population wishing more than just cataract removal, but vision correction. In this symposium, speakers will characterize the laser technology, the competing systems, its clinical accuracy and practical implementation.
