Description
In the last one decade, use of Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) drugs in wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) have become the standard of care. However, lack of definitive therapeutic endpoint, increasing number of hospital visits and the attendant risk of intravitreal injections have remained major concerns. Is ranibizumab safer or more efficacious than bevacizumab? Is afilbercept as effective and longer lasting as the more commonly used agents? Are there alternative drugs in the pipeline? Do the use of all or any anti-VEGF drugs over a long time lead to progressive atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium and photoreceptors? What should be the ideal imaging techniques to follow patients of AMD? The symposium will attempt to answer some of these emerging questions in the management of AMD.
