Description
Estimating trends in the global burden of blindness and vision impairment by cause is important for several reasons that include understanding areas of unmet need, and the effects of interventions. Speakers in this session will explain how the most comprehensive review of blindness/vision impairment prevalence data was conducted as part of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Study, the results of this work and the ongoing global vision loss database. The implications of these findings and their dissemination via an online visualization project will also be presented. Global monitoring of the WHO Action Plan and indicators to measure progress in eye health will be discussed.
