Description
This session aims to address the continuing challenges still posed by cataract, uncorrected refractive errors and trachomatous trichiasis after more than 14 years of launching VISION 2020. The topics on cataract discuss the role of public private partnership and new approaches of improving the cataract surgical services on sustainable basis in developing countries, where cataract still remains the major cause of blindness. With regard to uncorrected refractive errors (URE), the session addresses the issues of how to improve URE programmes as well as share lessons learnt from successful projects and activities in Sub Saharan Africa and Asia. The topics on trachomatous trichiasis focus on how better to deliver TT surgery in endemic countries; and as the TT recurrence depends heavily on surgical skills of the surgeon discuss new approaches of improving selection and training of TT surgeons.
