- DEWS defines “dry eye” as a multifactorial disease affecting tears and the ocular surface that results in symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability with potential damage to the ocular surface. It is accompanied by increased osmolarity of the tear film and inflammation of the ocular surface. However, the core mechanism of dry eye is situational and varies in accordance with each country’s occurrence. Therefore, in this seminar the Asia Dry Eye Society will discuss in depth “the stability of the tear film and the inflammation brought about by dry eye.”
