- Although glaucoma is the most common cause of irreversible but preventable blindness, individual disease outcomes vary so widely that treatment decisions can be difficult. Assessing an individual's risk of developing, progressing or being blinded is a critical part of glaucoma management. This symposium will explore the role of risk factors in glaucoma development and progression. It will detail risk factors for open angle and angle closure glaucoma as well as glaucoma treatment failure. Lastly, it will assess the implication of risk factors for glaucoma pathogenesis. At the conclusion of the symposium, attendees should have a clear understanding of the importance and role of risk factors in glaucoma.
