Toric Intraocular Lens in Subjects with Cataract and Corneal Astigmatism
This study evaluate the results after implantation of Toric Intra Ocular Lenses (IOLs) to correct pre-existing corneal astigmatism in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
DESIGN: Retrospective, Randomized.
PARTICIANTS: 30 Patients who underwent Phacoemulsification and Posterior Chamber Toric IOL Implantation (Acrysof Toric IOL )-in subjects with Cataract and Pre-existing Corneal Astigmatism done in cataract and glaucoma unit (Magrabi eye & ear hospital-Jeddah-Saudia Arabia)
METHODS :Unilateral or Bilateral Implantation of an Acrysof Toric (range from SN6AT3 to SN6AT9)according to the corneal astigmatism measured through the preop keratometric reading
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE :
· Uncorrected Visual Acuity (UCVA )
· Refractive Sphere and Keratometric and Refractive Cylinder were recorded pre-operatively and 6 months after surgery.
· Toric IOL axis shift was also measured using (Corneal Analyzer OPD-Scan lll,NIDEK CO)
Results and Conclusion
RESULTS : 6 months post operatively 84 % of eyes achieved 20/40 or better UCVA, the mean post-operative refractive cylinder was < 0.75,mean rotation was < 4 degree (range from 0- 15 degree) for Toric IOL (range 0*-10*).
CONCLUSIONS : Toric IOL Implantation showed Favorable efficacy, rotational stability, distance vision spectacle freedom.
