We evaluated the clinicopathological features of intestinal complications in patients who had surgery for gastrointestinal non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Twenty nine patients with gastrointestinal lymphoma were treated at our institution between January 2007 and July 2012 and were retrospectively analyzed. Seven patients (24.1%) had surgery because of bleeding, perforation or ileus caused by gastrointestinal lymphoma, especially in those in which there was involvement of the jejunum or ileum. Half of small intestinal lymphoma patients required surgery for complications. Patients with small intestinal lymphoma were at high risk of complications requiring surgery. Among patients requiring surgery, those with semicircular shaped ulcerative lesions, a protruding deformity of more than 50mm, or a systemic lymphoma involving the intestin were thought to have a particularly high risk of intestinal complications in non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
