【Background】 The patients with Chronic kidney Disease (CKD) are highly sensitive to develop cardiovascular diseases for various reasons. By the time renal replacement therapy (RRT) is begun, their cardiovascular condition is already severely compromised, suggesting that cardiovascular risk factors start to operate very early stage of CKD. In this context a study was carried out to see prevalence of major cardiovascular risk factors among patients with CKD-5 before starting dialysis therapy in the department of Nephrology of National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU) for 12 months duration.  【Methods】 This was an observational study where 300 patients were randomly selected according to inclusion criteria. A structured questionnaire was filled up. We evaluated socio-demographic aspects including age, sex, occupation, socioeconomic condition of patients, with assessment of cardiovascular risk factors as well as cardiovascular events. 【Result】 Among Study population, 83.3% had Hypertension, 23% had Diabetes mellitus, 46.6% had raised LDL cholesterol, 57.3% had raised triglyceride level, 27% had habit of smoking and 20% was suffering from Overweight and Obesity. The prevalence of cardiovascular events among patients with CKD-5 showed that 18.3% had ischemic heart disease, 38% heart failure, 4.7% arrhythmia and 9% left ventricular hypertrophy.  【Conclusion】 The result of this study suggests that among patients with CKD-5, prevalence of cardiovascular factors and events are high. Multidisciplinary actions should be taken to prevent cardiovascular diseases in CKD patients.
