≪Organizer Abstract≫
There is growing international recognition that advancing understandings of violence requires a more robust appreciation of the complex psycho-social mechanisms that translate risks for violence into its enactments. Moving the methodological and theoretical emphases from risk factor modeling at the population level to a focus on the situational dimensions of violence forms the point of departure for advancing a critical psycho-social approach to violence studies. Methodological, empirical and
theoretical building blocks informing such a critical approach to the study of violence will be presented in this symposium. The presentations will focus on innovative approaches to studying violence in situ across a number of related projects. Together, the presentations aim to extend current violence studies, given that engagement in and exposure to violence remains a defining feature of life for many across the world.
