≪Organizer Abstract≫
The present symposium brings together scholars from Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong to discuss and contemplate on the pressing issues related to LGBTI people. Research on the state of affairs, prevalence, and mental health status of LGBT people, as well as public attitudes towards them in Japan, will be presented to provide the audience an overview of the current situation. In Taiwan, as the marital and adoption rights of LGB parents are hotly debated, a research examining the attitudes towards children's adjustment of LGB parents among college students will be presented. Finally, in light of the debate over legislating against discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex status in the Hong Kong community, issues of discrimination experienced by LGBTI people in Hong Kong will be compared within its unique cultural, social and political contexts with those in North America and Europe.
