≪Organizer Abstract≫
Many children and adolescents are still being highly exposed to the risk of accidents on the road, which suggests that road safety education as well as safety technology in vehicles and on roads can be largely improved. This symposium will discuss theoretical and practical issues of road safety education, particularly focusing on improving design educational programs and making them visible to the younger generations. Recent research shows that methods of promoting "thinking" and "reflecting," such as coaching, mirroring, and other forms of active learning, can effectively enhance knowledge, cognitive skills, and safety-oriented attitudes. Close cooperation among school, parents, police, and other related agencies in the community can also help boost educational intervention. Presenters based in Australia, Finland, Japan, and the UK will orient their contributions towards theoretical advances and practical solutions, on the basis of empirical data on the evaluation of educational intervention.
