≪Organizer Abstract≫
The period of adolescence is a time when individuals decide on their own lifestyles, and values, beliefs, as they approach transition to adulthood. Adolescents face a variety of developmental tasks intertwined with multiple social contexts, including families, schools, communities, and cultures. This symposium aims at examining various aspects related to psychosocial development in adolescence, consisting of four groups of researchers from four countries and a discussant. Specifically, Titzmann will present a study on the interaction with immigration and normative development. Zukauskiene et al. will present a longitudinal study on positive youth development trajectories. Sugimura et al. will present a study on the relationships between parent-adolescent separation and connectedness, and adolescent identity. Crocetti et al. will present a longitudinal study on the interplay between empathy, parent-adolescent relationships, and adolescent antisocial behaviors. Together, these studies underline the importance of psychosocial development for adolescents, navigating their transition to adulthood through challenges and difficulties.
