This presentation focuses on the impact of gender socialization and sociocultural context on the post-assault recovery process of Taiwanese female survivors of adulthood sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. Sexual violence against women has been identified as a serious concern in Taiwan. Interviews with Taiwanese female sexual violence survivors revealed the influences of gender socialization and cultural values (e.g., virginity) on survivors' trauma, coping processes, and recovery outcomes. The presenter will discuss the efforts of the national sexual assault prevention centers, change in legislations against sexual crime in Taiwan, and ways to conduct research using a feminist paradigm to promote social justice for survivors of sexual violence.
