The objectives of the present study were to examine the importance of marriage, the ideal age of marriage, the influence of on such decisions and the traits considered important in the selection of mates among Parsi young adults living in Mumbai. Data was obtained from 68 Parsi men and women between the ages of eighteen and twenty eight with a pre-coded questionnaire. Results indicated that Parsi adults considered marriage as an important institution. The Parsi men and women were divided on the relevance of Parsi norms, rules and the role of marriage in preserving Parsi heritage.Parsi men and women selected psychosocial factors such as mutual love, emotional stability understanding and consideration towards parents in their partners.Though marriage was important for the sample, children were not a priority for them; which was an alarming concern for the community grappling with a steady population decline.
