Altruistic punishment plays an important role in safeguarding the team's fairness. In this research, the trait empathy scale and social value orientation scale were applied to the survey of 215 students and scores on altruistic punishment were also gained with the situational simulation exercise. The relationship among altruistic punishment, trait empathy and social value orientation were probed into. As are illustrated by the results, trait empathy is a significant effect in predicting altruistic punishment behaviors and social value orientation plays a role as the moderator. Moreover, individuals with high social value orientation are more likely to adopt stricter altruistic punishment behaviors in an unfair environment.
