The Orgullo: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Interest Group is a community within the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA). Its members are invested in addressing the needs and challenges faced by Latina/o lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons. LGBT Latinas/os negotiate multiple marginalized identities and experience discrimination in familial, community, and institutional settings. As a group, we address issues of intersectionality including the intersection of sexual identity/orientation, race/ethnicity, and social class. We promote and expand education, research, and the clinical application of affirmative practices to enable LGBT persons and their families to thrive. We achieve our goals by 1) creating a community where members can network and share community specific resources; 2) conducting and disseminating scientific and applied research focusing on the integration of Latina/o and LGBT identities; and 3) providing education concerning the unique needs of the LGBT Latina/o community to NLPA membership and the public-at-large.
