Jumping out of the textbook and into the fire: Training and teaching gender diversity in psychology curricula

[Speaker] Burnes, Theodore R:1
1:Antioch University, Los Angeles (United States of America)

In this presentation, the presenters describe the unique intersections of racism and anti-
trans bias that transgender people around the world may experience when accessing mental
healthcare services. Presenters draw upon first-person narratives of transgender people of color
describing their psychological needs in order to discuss psychological practice recommendations.
Finally, the presenters will also discuss how transgender people of color have participated in
liberation movements in order to demand transgender-affirmative and necessary mental
healthcare and describe how psychologists may be involved in advocacy efforts seeking to
reduce racism and anti-trans bias in the settings in which they work.
