To examine the related factors that predicts the transition to dementia after 3-years in community-dwelling elderly adults.
We carried out the comprehensive health survey for about 4500 elderly in urban area-dwelling of Tokyo metropolitan, Japan using a mailed method.
The checklist of comprehensive health was estimated six domains of function (Mental health, Walking, IADL, Cognition, Social support, Oral and nutrition). It consisted of 30 items.
Result of stepwise logistic regression analysis showed that higher function of Walking, Cognition and Social support of baseline survey were associated with lower odds ratio of transition to dementia after 3-years.
This result suggests it is important to maintain personal factors (physical and cognitive), not only social factor (social support) for prevention to dementia.
