Modern society has already entered into the era of aging due to medical advancement and declining birthrate trend. Seniors are all different in their experience, habits, and various physical or cognitive capacities. They do have special needs; however, the expressed needs may not be the real ones. The reasons may be that they tend to deny getting older because they want to not depend on anybody else and stay at home as long as possible. As a result, seniors may hide their needs and reject products marked as specialized for the elderly. The present research developed an ergonomic musculoskeletal checklist based on Ovako working posture analysis system (OWAS) to analysis physical conditions of the elderly. Then, this study applied TRIZ theory to innovatively design assistive devices for physically restricted aging people. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of this modified musculoskeletal checklist in identifying physical design needs for the elderly.
