The determinants of satisfaction and problems faced by coaches in Japanese community sports

I introduce some findings from Japanese coaches' perspectives. Japanese caches' work conditions differ from those of coaches in other countries because of the history of Japanese sports education resting on physical education in schools. Thus, although a system to train physical education teachers has been established, many problems remain unsolved in the system for training community sports coaches. Considering this situation, we clarified the determinants of satisfaction and problems faced by coaches in Japanese community sports using a questionnaire survey and interviews. Coaches see child development, engaging in favorite sports, and contributing to the development of sports in Japan as determinants of satisfaction. Meanwhile, coaches have difficulties in working as volunteers, securing locations, and maintaining appropriate relationships with parents. In light of this specific Japanese situation, it is necessary to improve the system for training coaches in community sports in the future.
