Effect of Affective Coherence on Stereotype Activation

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of affective coherence on stereotype activation. Methods: With 89 undergraduates as participants, using Gender Implicit Association Test (IAT), a two factor between-subjects design was employed. In the task, we used positive or negative music, and the scrambled sentences task manipulated affective coherence, and Gender IAT tests D scores as the dependent variable index. Results: Compared with the affective coherence, IAT effect under conditions of affective incoherence stronger gender stereotypes. Conclusion: Individuals under affective incoherence condition more dependent stereotype.
