The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between types of gambling and public health importance. We investigated severity of gambling disorder and impulsivity in each type of gambling. The questionnaire included South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS) and delay discounting task were administered to 135 university students and 131 gamblers (horse race group, n = 25; keirin group, n = 27; motorboat race group, n = 28; pachinko group, n = 29; lottery group, n = 22) in Hyogo prefecture, between October 2015 and November 2015. Results showed that all gambler groups except for lottery group had higher SOGS score than university student group. Lottery group, however, discounted delayed rewards at middle or higher rates in gambler groups. Finally, we discuss the implications of this study.
