In this study, the Japanese version of the Humiliation Inventory (HI-J) was developed and validated with 356 participants. The participants completed the state humiliation, shame and guilt scale, the Japanese version of Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding (BIDR-J), the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BAQ), and the Scale Measuring a Sense of Generalized Self-Efficacy. In Survey, confirmatory factor analysis on the HI-J data revealed high indicated that the HI-J internal consistency, showing to have a two-factor structure as well as good internal consistency, similar to the original. The results demonstrated that the HI-J was positively associated with the humiliation factor in the state humiliation, shame and guilt scale, and the hostility factor in the BAQ, and that it was negatively associated with the self-deception factor in the BIDR-J. These results indicate that the HI-J is an appropriate measure in investigating good validity of experience of humiliation among Japanese people.
